Shaikh Omer Farooq:
August-8th-2009

People say: Even if we have to go to hell fire, we will not be there for that long.
From this Ayah, Allah (swt) clarifies there misunderstanding.

Slide: Rest assured that whosoever from among the Muslims or the Jews or the Christians or the Sabaeans believes in Allah and the Last Day, and performs good deeds, he will have his reward with his Lord and he will have no cause for fear and grief.
• Sabiean: (they must have been the followers of a prophet or book, but later on changed their way) they are either “angle worshipers” or “star worshiper” or atheist.
• Yahood had a misunderstanding that “only they will be successful” Allah (SWT) clarified; whoever believes in Allah and the last day and do righteous deeds will be rewarded and will have no fear, no sorrow.
• Some say; all religions are same. Salman Farisi (RA) asked the prophet about his friends who have died before Islam, but they were pious people, then Allah revealed this Ayah. Allah clarifies that evil-doers from the followers of any prophet or book will have their punishment but righteous people who have died before Islam, will have their reward with their Lord.

• Allah (swt) has mentioned, believe and do good deeds. These two go together. Who does this, will get there reward with their Lord.
• Do not call yourself Muslim, by your clothes…Believe and Do good deeds
• Proof of our Iman is Salah. Difference between Iman and Kufr, are the prayers.
• Another understanding of the Ayah: Time between Isa (a.s) and Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is 600 Years. What about those people who were faithful in between. Whoever has died before Islam, if they believed in Allah, and the last day, so good deeds, their reward is with their Lord. They will be successful and Allah (swt) will forgive them.

Slide: Believing in the prophet; Allah says, there came to you a messenger from your Lord with Truth, so believe in Him and that is better for you. (An-Nisa 4:170)
Prophet (saw) Said, By Allah; whoever heard of me from the Jews and Christens and does not believe in me but will enter the Hell
fire. (Muslim)

Allah is addressing the Muslims as well; whoever believes in Allah and the last day and do good deeds will have their reward with their Lord. Whatever good you do, do it only for Allah, and do not expect an appreciation from people. Do not worry, if people do not appreciate because Allah has a great reward for you in the next life.
(Ya Ibadi la khaufun Alaihim wala Hum yahzanoon)

• Believing in the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is part of our Iman.
• If a person wants to be successful, they must follow, or believe in the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh)
• Hadith (Prophet [pbuh] said): By Allah, whoever has heard of me, from the Jews and the Christian and any other religion, and does not believe in me, should look for a place in the Hell fire.
• Those who are doing good, and people don’t appreciate, do not stop, because your reward is with Allah (swt)
• Allah (swt) has mentioned in an Ayah: My People, my servants will have no fear, no sorrows.
• People who are always complaining, even though they have everything, that means they do not have peace in their life. That is because they are away from Allah (swt). You might have all the luxuries of life; you will have no happiness, because they do not have Allah in their life.
• We do not have to do all the things together; we do not have to go in the details, if we do not know the basics.
• If we want our prayers and duas to be accepted right away, then we must give priority to Allah(swt)

Slide: Call to mind the time, when We raised above you the Tur and made a covenant with you, saying, "Hold fast to the Book which We are giving you and bear in mind the commands and precepts contained therein. It is expected that this will lead you on to the paths of virtue and piety."

But even after that you turned away from the Covenant: nevertheless Allah did not withhold His grace and mercy from you; otherwise you would have been utterly ruined long before this.

• After they repented Musa (AS) went to the valley of Sinai with 70 leaders of 12 tribes and Allah (swt) took an oath from them.
• The situation was created that mount Tur was on top of their head as a shadow but they got scared and gave a pledge to worship Allah and to obey the commands of Torah.
• Many times Allah (swt) gives us opportunity to turn back to Him, he saves our life, shows His signs, we repent to Him and pledge His obedience but then again we turn away.

• Allah (swt) has given us the Qur’an.
• Hadith (prophet [saw] said): Qur’an is the rope to Allah. Hold fast the rope of Allah (Swt) and do not separate. One end is to Allah, and the other end is with you.
• Qur’an is the Ummah of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh). We Muslims only have one miracle – The Qur’an. Do not neglect the signs of Allah; do not forget the reminder of what Allah has said. The Qur’an should not be used on special occasions alone, but instead it should be part of our daily routine. If you forget the Qur’an, and pray then you will have a problem in the next life.
• Rasool will file a suit against those who have ignored the Quran on the Day of Judgment.
• Another thing learned from this Ayah: there are times when Allah (swt) saves us from dying or problems, we repent to Allah and say: give us another chance. But then again we lie.
• When Allah (swt) invites someone to come for Hajj, to visit his home. Allah (swt) wants you to return to him.
• Every Morning we wake up, Allah (swt) gives us another opportunity to repent to him, and remember him.
• Do not make a commitment to Allah and break that commitment. Submit yourself to Allah (Swt) completely.
• Without the help of Allah (swt) we will not be able to perform anything in our life. Even for small things, remember Allah (Swt).

Slide: And you know well the story of those among you who broke Sabbath. We said to them, "Be apes, despised and hated by all.
Thus We made their end a warning to the people of their time and the generations to come, and an admonition for God-fearing people.

Law of Sabt:

They will rest and worship on Saturday, will not do any business not even cooking, and it was so emphasized, that whoever does not respect this law should be killed.
But when their moral and religious declination started, they disrespected the law and openly started business in their towns.
They played a trick, either they will set the fishing net on Friday night or they will dig a hole on the side of the river.
Allah does not punish this Ummah right away, but He delays, gives warnings and opportunities to return back to Him and some times He punishes and some time he delays until the Day of Judgment.
That is why we seek refuge in Allah, from the evil consequences of our actions.
Their minds were allowed to remain intact, but their bodies were changed into the monkeys.

• Law of Sabt: They will perform rest and worship on Saturday. Most of them were in the fishing business. From Allah (swt) has done as a test, from river and catch the fish. Saturday there were a lot of fish. Some of them, they set the net on Friday night. Because they broke the covenant, Allah (swt) changed them into monkey. There mind was like human, but there body changed to monkey. The purpose was so they realize their mistakes.
• It’s Allah (swt)’s great favor/blessing on our Ummah, is that he gives us opportunities to return to him and does not Punish right away.
• It is the Shaytan that makes your wrong doing seem beautiful.
• Hadith: When a person does something wrong, a black dot will appear on the heart. If the person repents, the dot disappears. Do sincere Repentance.
• Every night you go to sleep, repent Allah (swt).

Slide: Then call to mind the other event: when Moses said to his people, "Allah commands you to sacrifice a cow," they replied, "Do you mean to have a jest with us?" He answered, "I crave Allah's protection from behaving like ignorant people." Then they said, "Please make a request to your Lord to give us some details of the cow." Moses answered, "Allah says that the cow should neither be old nor immature but of middle age. Do, therefore, as you are bidden." But they further asked, "Please request your Lord to make it clear to us of what color she should be." Moses answered, "He says that she should be of yellow color, so deep and bright as to delight the beholders."

• Allah (swt) ordered them to slaughter a Cow. Kill their Idols.
• We Muslims have idols too. Some of us follow our desires. Sometimes we listen to Shaytan. Sometimes we follow the wrong traditions.
• This Dunya is not to fulfill all our wishes and desire. In Jannah, you will be able to fulfill all your wishes and desires. If we waste our time in this life, and not pray, remember it is not an option to pray.
• Follow the Commands of Allah (swt) and the Sunnah of Prophet (pbuh).
• Things we do today: We pray, but we don’t give Zikat. We don’t eat Pork, but we eat the flesh of our brothers and sisters. We clam Qur’an is our book, but we don’t recite the Qur’an.
• Your responsibility is to save yourself from the Hell Fire, and then save your family and friends.

Slide: Again they said, "Pray your Lord to specify for us the kind of cow that is required; for cows (of this type) look alike to us. We shall then find her, if God so wills." Moses answered, "Allah says that she should be a cow which has not been yoked nor has ploughed the land nor watered the fields; which is sound and whole, without blemish. " Then they cried out, "Now you have given an accurate description. " Then they sacrificed her but they did not appear to be doing this willingly.
• Because they started worshiping cow, they were ordered to slaughter the cow. They had a test to break their own idle that they were worshiping beside Allah. It was a great test for them so they started finding excuses and asking unnecessary questions, so they can escape.
• More questions, More stuck
• We should not be asking too many questions to escape our self but if we have real questions that we want to understand how to practice it, then Allah will make it easy to understand.

• If we do not understand the wisdom of what Allah (swt) has said, we should not question or hesitate to practice. And with time Inshallah Allah (swt) will show us the wisdom.
• Must make a commitment with Allah (swt) that whatever we learn, we will practice.

Slide: You should also recall to mind another incident: You killed a man and began to dispute and accuse one another of it, but Allah had decreed that what you were trying to hide should be disclosed.

So We commanded, "Strike the corpse of the murdered man with a part of the sacrificed cow. See how Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His Signs, so that you may understand".

But even after seeing these Signs your hearts hardened and became as hard as rocks; nay, even harder than rocks. For there are some rocks out of which springs comes out, and others which split open, and water flows out of them; then there are some which tumble down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you are doing.

• Allah is aware of everything. And Allah has the power to reveal it to the public. Many of the Sins that are committed are committed at night, when people are alone. When we are alone, we believe no one is around us, no one is watching us. Remember that Allah (swt) is always there.
• Criteria of choosing a husband or a wife: (Omer (r.a) chose the girl for his son, who said (Allah is watching you...)
• Don’t reject the miracles of the Qur’an; Qur’an is the miracle of this Ummah.
